The well-preserved old town was built by the Venetians in the 16th century. It surrounds the small harbor with narrow streets, stone buildings, and beautiful monuments. Under the protective shade of Fortezza Castle, Rethymno combines the classic and the modern in a buzzing town.

For cycling, we recommend riding a 44 km cycling trip (guided if possible) a loop ride Prinos – Viran Episkopi – Loutra – Pigi – Adele – Rethimno. You will ride on quiet, asphalt, back-country roads, through small villages and scenic landscapes. Short climbs of small inclines and long flat sections keep the pace relaxed. In Rethimno you take a break to enjoy the cosmopolitical life of the old town. The return way is along the coastline, flat for the most part. The recreational ride is a perfect introduction to cycling in the region.
