Your cycling journey starts in the old Italian port town of Muggia (near Trieste), which still bears the traces of a prosperous history. You cycle south from Muggia out of Italy to eventually end up in Croatia via a piece of Slovenia. The cycling tour takes place on the sunny Istrian peninsula, with picturesque fishing villages, small towns above limestone hills, beautiful vineyards, and fertile valleys. Don’t forget the Parenzana trail! It was a narrow-gauge railway, operating in the northwestern Istria. The 123 km long route takes you past 33 towns from Trieste/Muggia to Porec. Although it operated only slightly over three decades, the small railway left an indelible mark on the entire area.  Most of the bike path is gravel, and the trail also utilizes gravel roads and pavement stretches. The route is simply a pedaling paradise. The Parenzana route is an ideal choice for an active vacation. Apart from summer, it is good to visit in the spring and autumn.
